Daddy Cool

San Hose Mine, Chile, October 12, 2010

It was a sea of orange-coated arms, chests and backs, white gleaming miner-hats, and anxious smiles. The cylinder rose from the earth – it looked too narrow to hold you.  I held madre’s hand as tightly as I could, our nails digging into one another. You walked out of the wire mesh. I cried loudly and the triumphant rescue-siren tried to out-cry me.  Daddy cool.
